What are my options for counselling and psychological care?
Your options for counselling and psychological care include:
- If you already have an existing relationship with a counsellor and want to continue seeing them, they must be registered with the Redress Counselling Program (if eligible) or on the Trauma Support Directory.
- Working with a counsellor who is registered on the Trauma Support Directory.
- Accessing support to find a counsellor by contacting the Counselling Program Team on 1800 569 100 or redresscounselling@cyjma.qld.gov.au. The Team is located within the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services, supporting all Queenslanders who accept an offer of Counselling and psychological care from the National Redress Scheme.
How many counselling hours can I receive?
In Queensland, people who receive redress can access 20 hours (and more if needed) of counselling and psychological care services.
How can I find out how many counselling hours I have left?
To find out how many hours of counselling and psychological care you have remaining, contact the Redress Counselling Team.
Your counsellor can also do this on your behalf if you give them permission. With your permission, counsellors must also check how many hours are remaining before they commence delivering counselling and psychological care. They can do this by contacting us by email or phone 1800 569 100.
Your counsellor, with your agreement, can recommend requests for additional hours of counselling and psychological care. Additional hours will be considered on a case-by-case basis and your counsellor can email the request to redresscounselling@cyjma.qld.gov.au.
How much will it cost?
Counsellors invoice the Redress Counselling Team directly. The standard rate counsellors can charge is capped and your counsellor must not charge you a gap fee.
The Redress Counselling Team can provide your practitioner with all the information they need.
You can download the full range of service options and fee settings _.
Your counsellor will need to send their invoices by email to the Redress Counselling Team for payment. You will be asked to co-sign a form to verify that you received a counselling service. No information about what you discuss with your counsellor is ever shared.
